This is a lovely light weight cup and saucer with the Green Crown mark, it feels like porcelain.
Can anyone give me some information on this lovely piece.

Well, a better look at the backstamp would be helpful, but it looks like mark #10 in the Nippon books by Ms. Van Patten. I have a piece like this, a little creamer; the crown is green and the lettering is red. The book says it's can also be totally green, both lettering and crown. The word "Nippon" is almost gone on my piece as well as yours.
Congratulations on finding a cup and saucer with so little wear of the gold around the edges and the handle. Looks like this was a much loved set.

I have added the back stamp and it is a green crown with red lettering, do you know the era it was done in?

PastJoy, click on "Nippon Porcelain" above for an excellent overview on the "Nippon Era". Also check out the links along the left. Definitely check the International Nippon Collector's Club's site along with the other links. I think it's safe to say probably anything marked with true Nippon backstamps are almost 100 years old. At least. (Typed with cat in lap not helping much.)
