Just imagine getting a phone call from a person you never met and he's telling you he has a P-51 Mustang for sale that is disassembled but was a flying plane!!!!! Your lips move but you can't hear anything coming out of your mouth because you are sooooooo excited to hear of such an offer!!! That was me. Finally I got my vocal cords to respond and found that the plane had been previously purchased by this famous War Hero who had 4 Purple Hearts a Silver Star and a Bronze Star and that he had recentely died and the family had this plane for sale!!!! ZOWIE! Exactly what I was looking for. The question was how fast could we get the truck and trailer ready and leave for NC to pick it and how did they want us to Pay for it? Cashiers check was just fine and made out to whom? A couple of days later we were on the road from Provo Ut to a huge plantation in nowhere NC to purchase and load the cool P-51. What a thrill it was when we finally loaded the last of the many pieces on the trailer and in the truck. Yes, the wing was so long we had it sticking way out the back of the trailer and way out the front of the trailer so we couldn't make left turns! Very inconvientient when stopping for gas, which we had to do a lot on that 1600 mile return to home trip. Yes that is longer than the trip going which was only 1400 plus miles, but we had to go a "little bit" out of our way home to pick up a very cool Wayne 60 gas pump up in way Northern Wyoming on the way home. That's another story for another day but it was a good story all by itself! This is what we looked like as we proceeded down the lonely highway from NC through Georgia and Tenn, where we picked up a few Cool porcelain signs along the way that I had previously arranged to purchase. Why not take advantage of the long trip to the South by bringing home a lot of visible memories to go along with the sore back and bottom and empty pocket book? So it was and so we did. The plane is now put together and mounted up on a pole with pilot dressed in an original leather flight hat and coat looking like he just landed on the roof of one of our Storage buildings. Very cool! I luv this plane and what it represents. America is FREE because of those awesome young heros that flew planes like this and we owe them BIG time and always will! It's great to be an American and live in the Land of the Free. Freedom didn't come cheap and still doesn't. I love the reminders and you can see some of ours at @aaalakesidestorage.com when you look at the blogs.
I just wish I was in the US to come and have a BIG look around your place!
A beauty! Eng. too & which one?
