Happy new all my friends, trying to get over this bleak January, , any sorry to be annoying ye but just picked up 2 boxes, one I think is made of rosewood maybe, the other is I dont know, but I trying to learn there useage ,the biggest has writing I can't understand, Japanese/Chinese, abig guess , any way I seek yer knowledge , folks, thanks Anthony
That writing appears to be Hebrew.
Mumbo jumbo to me ha ha, hebrew what it say,,,
The one if Hebrew writing might be olive wood?
Olive wood hmm must check out that timber, thanks
:) I think it is olive wood, maybe some sort of tourist trade box from Israel--just a guess though :) both very nice boxes :)
Thanks I was going to convert them into fly boxes but,,, don't know might just leave them as trinket boxes, Anthony
Would make nice display boxes for collectible flies I think :)
The last picture looks like bocote wood. I have some and it runs about $18 a foot. I buy every wooden cigar box I can find or other wooden boxes. I use a quill tip wood burner to put a design in them which I do with carbon paper then burn it. It turns a $3 box into $71 in a week on eBay. Fly fishing images on the top are really a big hit. The wood you have here won't burn well because it is too hard. Nice looking find though.
NICE !!!
Anyone able to translate the wording, might give us an idea of what it was used for , just a taught,
