Really?

Remember in the olden days when we used to have Brand loyalty and would go an extra mile or two to get Mobil gas or PHILLIPS gas or Shell gas as compared to getting no name gas or some Brand that was not our favorite? Remember how we used to actually believe that the different brands were different and that one was really better than another. Wow! We're we ever gullible! In Utah we find that Shell buys their gas from the Tesoro refinery. In the olden days MOBIL was actually Standard Oil under a different name. Sometimes on some of the older signs you can see the name SOCONY on the bottom of a MOBIL sign. Ever wonder what that means? It means Standard Oil Company of New York!!! So it has been ever since the breakup of Standard Oil back in 1913 due to Monoply. The Feds made Standard divide up which they did and made about 53 independent Companies under different names but obviously still owned by Standard Oil anyway. We actually have another sign we purchased that is the Mobil logo with the Pegasus but simply says Standard on it and doesn't even mess with the Mobil name. Not good or bad, just interesting and lets us know that the Big fish have all the control and us little fish can be eaten any time the big fish get hungry and want to eat us. The good news is that this is America and we can become anything we want if we want it badly enough to do what is necessary to get there.
