I remember using 6-12 when I was a kid. Just imagine how many mosquitoes you can grow in Minnesota, the "Land of Ten Thousand Lakes".

It was very popular when I was young. We used it while in the Que. bush near where I lived and at our Adirondack camp. I can still remember the smell. That and the infamous DDT. Very, very greasy and mildly effective. No where near as effective as todays DEET based products.

I found a bottle of 6-12 insect repellent in my cold air return while cleaning my ducts.

I remember my grandmother always having a stick of 6-12 in her purse whenever they took us to the Belle Isle zoo or the park or just at a back yard picnic. The ad says its odorless but I remember it had a very distinct smell. Not objectionable at all, very pleasant actually. I remember it was in a small tube about the size of a roll of nickles it had a yelllow tube with blue writing that had a circle with the 6-12 on it. The stuff inside was like a waxy greasy stick the you pushed up from the bottom as you needed it and you just rubbed it on and it lasted for hours. Often wonder why they took it off the market. I found an all natural bug repellant at a local farmers market and the smell brings back memories of the old 6-12 Grandma used to carry. Ahhh the memories!

Back in the 50's everyone had a bottle of 6-12 in their fishing creel or tackle box.

In 1965 my son ingested 6-12 Insect Repellant. He was about 2 1/2. He was uncontrollably agitated and sleepless for 48 hours. He has brain damage which I attribute to the accident. I did no research at the time but would like to learn the ingredients and dangers./

Northwestelf - I will post a link below. It is for the MSDS sheet for 6-12. MSDS is Material Safety Data Sheet. Ant time you have a question about things like this or even pills, household cleaners etc. just research the MSDS sheet for the product. The link below is an entire google search results.

Hi all, I found a bottle of this cleaning out my Dad's camping stuff, and researched it. Then created an account here when I saw the previous posts just so I could warn everyone -- The active ingredient in 6-12 insect repellent was banned in 1991 by at least the USA and Canada, because it was proven to cause harm to fetuses when pregnant women used it. So I definitely would not use it. I'm going to put this in my hazardous disposal sack.

The active ingredient in 6-12 insect repellent is Ethylhexanediol 100%. Directions for use are on the back side of the front paper label. Read through the liquid.
      Directions
Shake liberally into hands- rub hands together - rub over all exposed skin and stockings. Keep out of eyes to avoid smarting. Reapply as needed....
