Found this small statue at an estate sale, brought it home because I was interested in figuring out it's history- I haven't been able to find a single clue: if this is a popular character, who made it, or even discern what kind of animal it is. It is definitely plaster where the paint has chipped, I believe it is oil paint: the colors are very bright, but matte. It measures 6" tall and 2.5" across. It looks like the head was glued back on the body at some point. Any help identifying this would be much appreciated!

Is it really lightweight? Maybe paper mâché candy container?

Sorry, another question, does it seem hollow? I was wondering if the head was detached originally, so it could be opened...I have seen some german candy containers that look similar...but of course, if it's solid, then nope :)

I don't believe it's paper mâché, when I tad trying to clean it the bare spots had a plaster- like dust. It's feel heavy and solid for it's size. I'm worried that if I try to remove the head by loosening the glue I'll damage it.

this is like what I was thinking: http://www.hollydaze.net/easter.htm

But if heavy, I would guess chalkware made in the USA
