January antique fairs can be pretty dull here in Sydney: everyone is still away on summer holidays. But it also means that there are few casuals who turn up to take the place of the regular dealers. 'New stuff! Fresh to the market!'
So last Sunday I came across some new faces on the chase at the Wenty market on January 4. One of them unpacked after a quick look round and was attracting some attention. I saw a few pieces of glass on his table and asked the price of three. This item was the cheapest and was the one I actually wanted.
I checked with Marty when I got home and he said 'Kralik'. He directed me to one site and then I went to another. The answer is really in the first Truitt book that shows an entire page of 'Punched' pieces sold by Hosch in their catalogue of 1905. Alfredo Villanueva added that they came in two colours: a pink and a violet. Some pieces are enamelled and gilded.
This bowl is undecorated with two punched triangular shapes that define handles to each side. The pontil has been ground down to a flat surface. The opalescent pink over the entire surface of the bowl is extraordinary: like the inside of a conch shell.
'Wilhelm Kralik Sohn' operated at Eleonorenhain (Lenora), in Bohemia from 1881 until 1938. Lenora village is situated in the valley of the Vltava river in the Bohemian Forest about 15 km south of Vimperk.
It is 10cm (or 4") high and 26.5 cm (or 10.5") at its widest point.

Hi Kev how's the weather down there it looks as if we might get a bit of a break for a day with more rain coming in for the weekend possible cyclone for Sunday going by weather report. As always it's great to look at unusual items as this vase is well to me it is anyway as I have never seen this style before.
