I did a bit more in depth searching online and found this portrait "Young Boy with A Broom / Street Urchin " by a Giovan(n)i Maresca ( Italian 1850-1920) it was listed on Live Auctions website back in 2006. There are a few Marescas' in the art world but none of them seem to match my painting stylistically, until I saw this. The little boy in the first painting is almost a twin to the baby Jesus in my Maresca "Madonna" painting ! I'm fairly sure we have a positive ID. Mine looks like the same style and model to me just a little younger than the Live Auction painting. My painting is simply signed Maresca in the bottom left with no initial or first name. It's hidden by the frame though. Comparing the signatures from what little I can see on the other painting they look identical. It's partially covered by it's frame too. There are a few other paintings by this artist but almost no information beyond the dates provide by the auction site. Hope there's a bio somewhere online it would be great to learn a little more . -Mike-
Glad you IDed it! Have to say I like your Madonna and child better!
