This little sake cup from Japan is the work of the renowned contemporary glass artist Kuniaki Kuroki .

Born in 1945 he started work at Sanyu Glass in 1963. He left Sanyu in 1974 to follow an independent art glass career and he has worked from his own studio since. His work is collected and sold worldwide, books have been published about him, he has had multiple exhibitions worldwide, and he is revered in the Japanese art glass world.

Kuniaki's work often includes extremely delicate elements, such as millefiori, worked inclusions, metals and applied glass ribs. The piece in photo 4 is an example of his work, but like many talented artists his work moves from style to style yet retains what I think is a very Japanese sensibility.

Made from clear glass with silver inclusions, this cup also has scattered millefiore and streaks of coloured glass. It has a typically Japanese applied foot and a fire polished rim.

A little thing, but boy I am happy to own this piece of Kuniaki!

There's always more Vet! Not always the same standard but I'm pleased you like what's been up lately. These were all found before my accident and time off and have recently arrived with some others but my searching has not been so successful over the last few months.

Thanks Elisabeth for your beautiful comment.

Thanks too Zowie - what I like about Japanese glass is it is often different to what we are used too.

I have to say now that the Kuroki work in photo 4 looks a bit like Bozo the clown! I know it wasn't meant so and it's probably very disrespectful...

Flu is serious....hope you are not incapacitated too many weeks. I would say find a nice chair in the sun and recuperate but the sun bit might not work!

      Glad you like the glass.

Hi Karen it is what it is at the moment I'm hoping the cyclone 4 that's coming hits down further I have never been in one before & if I'm going to have a first at least it could be a minor one. I'm hoping anyone in it's path comes away without to much damage & are safe. Have a great day & for the rest only time will tell just doing Emails.
