Right place right time!! I recently acquired a group of medals and awards from the Family of Mr. Paul Cowgill a true American hero. This is his Original US coastguard silver life saving medal. It's inscribed on the back To Paul Cowgill " for bravely rescuing a man from drowning August 18 1923. The ribbon part has darkened from the years but in great condition otherwise. Also some other great medals to list so please view. Any comments are welcome on information on this piece.

      Great medal!

Not really a military medal-- could be presented to anyone. I am not familiar with how many have been awarded but would certainly think it is limited numbers and an unusual/ hard NAMED medal to find.

Do you know the particulars of the rescue that earned Cowgill the medal?

I found the details of how he earned his medal. A soldier fell overboard from the USS Mallard and Cowgill dove overboard off a ferry to swim to save him.
