This is another of Paul Cowgill's medal. It's a USN Mexico Service Medal 1911-17. Stamped on bottom number 9720. I know there are different variations so I'm looking to clearly ID which one this is. Please if you can help me with information regarding this let me know. Also listing other of his great Medals.

Looks to be a nice original era issue medal.

I am not familiar with variants on the Navy medal, but different styles were issued to each service.

The serial number gives you an idea of how many were issued (at least up to Cowgill's issue), so again I wouldn't call this one rare either.

Ok, not rare - but certainly of interest to collectors of this period. Although you already know the name of the recipient, I believe this serial number falls within the range of "traceable" Navy Mexico Service medals. This means the number may be looked up to find Cowgill's name as the one who received it. That traceability increases it's value to a collector.

I should add that not all numbers within the" traceable range" are actually traceable. there are web sites that offer to check the number for you.
