I believe this Medal is an Original Period USN Good Conduct Medal. This piece is inscribed on the back Paul Cowgill U.S.S. Murray Aug.15,1919. Also has attached tag piece that is inscribed U.S.S. Shirk #318. This ribbon has seen better days but the rest of it is fine. I don't know much of this or what Variation it is or value etc. If you have any info regarding any of the recent medals or comments regarding the medals recently listed please share.

I like these early USN Good Conduct Medals.

I would not consider them rare but they are desirable among collectors.

The back of the medal gives the particulars for the first award and the clasps represent additional awards. They are found with dates and with the ships as well-- the engraved ship name is more desirable.

An online search will give you the particulars on the ships (can enhance desirability and values).

It is a shame that the ribbon is shredded.
