This lamp was purchased 65 years ago in Hamilton ON. I am looking for some help on the maker. The only symbol I can find is under the base and is pictured. It looks like an 11 and a diamond with T inside. The material of the birds and base is soap stone I believe. Thanks. Al
Thanks so much Phil. I am from the Niagara area of Ontario Canada, not to far from Hamilton where the lamp was purchased. Boy are they stained... years and years of cigarette smoke... alabaster you say. huh.
The birds are a raptor species and are still quite striking.
Phil... you are a terrific help.... close up picture on the way!
Close up posted. My mother will be very interested in hearing this information Phil. Her Dad bought it for her Mom for cash. So the story goes the salesman at the store (unknown) kept trying to show him the cheap lamps as he was in his bricklayer clothes. He was determined to buy the lamp and got the salesman's attention when he produced a wad of cash. Never knew my grandfather, but I have always liked this lamp and intend to keep it in the family... along with the story. As for the shade, it was long ago ruined by cigarette smoke. I intend to find an appropriate shade this year. You were correct, the middle bulb was no longer available so we had it fixed to hold a regular trilight. Al.
... and the guy at the lamp repair shop was adament about using only soap and water for cleaning. My mother worked on it for days. As mentioned before he said they were soapstone. Thanks for the warning.... hopefully not to late!
done!
