      Looks like composition (sawdust and glue). Very popular material during WWII when not a whole lot of anything wasn't rationed for the war. I've seen tanks and the like in composition around 6" plus, but I don't think I've seen these specifically.

      It appears that your toys were made by Wellmade Doll and Toy Co. of New York.

      Nice catch fourpeepsake! I want to start collecting these American composition pieces to go along with my other military toys, so having a name to attach to some of them is very helpful.
