This is an antique cowrie (Cypraea Tigris) Shell box. I got this from my grandfather when I was a little girl. I used to hide my diarykeys and a very small porcelain doll in it.
I have searched on line and after comparison with other pieces and I belive this is georgian period around 1800, could even be older from ca 1790? I think it´s brassmounted. I´ve tryed to show a close up of the zig-zag-shaped "seam" in the metal. Can that give ideas on age?
Ideas on age and where it was made is welcome :) !
Beautiful !! I love sea shells :-)
Thanks Manikin so do I. The little porcelain doll I wrote about is stored somewhere in my attic. I hope to find it one day to show you here on CW. She's an antique porrige/oatmeal doll if you know what that is?

Hi Mamikin! Late answer here. Mine is for certain a snuffbox, there is quite a lot of info to be found about these. Although I'm looking for info about where mine was made. It's 7 cm and
4,2 cm.
