My so called rocking chair?

I picked this up at a restoration store sale and was hoping someone can help me out! I have never seen a chair like this where the seat tilts back. It tilts on a type of metal spring and pegs to stop it. Can anyone maybe shed some light as to what kind of chair it is and what time period? My BF said his grandma had one at her cottage....but unfortunately, beside them seeing it, no one can identify it. It also has what seems to be original needle point pattern on the seat and older tacks. Absolutely love it and wish I had some history to share about it!
