Hello my name is Anthony new to the site, I was coin roll hunting lastnight and found this beautiful 1972 D Lincoln 1 cent penny. I would like to get opinion from others to see if this penny is considered an error? Worth sending out to get graded?
    Thank you.
    Anthony (:

      Hi Anthony, welcome to CW!

My gut feeling with this coin is that because the 1972 cents were still being struck in relatively high relief when compared to contemporary cents, I would not expect to see problems on all surfaces of the cent -- even if it was a defective planchet, some part of the design should have struck true.

If it was a rusty die, it should not be on the collar die.

I'm guessing it was some chemical erosion that happened outside the mint.

TubeAmp: Thank you for taking time out of your day to help. (: I have seen many coins that look like how you described: chemical erosion, this Penny looks super clean and does not have any open spots on it anywhere. I looks super shiny and has no physical damage to it? I will take it to the local coin shot in Victorville Ca.
I did get a offer for it: $5 lol
