Not an error - just a damaged coin

aghcollect, on the top next to the D there are letters pressed into the coin and not someone's initials. Not sure if you are able to see the coin in a bigger shot?
      Thanks. (:

I see the letters but it is not a "mint error" - the coin may have gotten caught in some kind of machinery or press to damage it like that. Anything steel would make an imprint into the softer metal copper. - The small KG initials on the reverse are the designers initials (the person that designed the maple leaf was George E. Kruger-Gray) - The KG is for Kruger-Gray

aghcollect: Got it and thank you again.
I will be buying a 2015 Red Book as well. (:

Ok- FYI, Redbook only covers U.S. Coins - if you don't have a lot of foreign coins, better to just check library Reference section - Best catalog for foreign coins is the "Krause" catalogs - they are also illustrated for easy identification.
