I would love to see whats under all that leather wrap. The lock assembly and buckles are machine stamped hardware, and would date after 1900, so not quite 200 years old but still a great old trunk.

yardsaledave, thanks for pointing it out,i checked closely and the metal lock is Brass and says "Double Level Lock"as you see in the pictures everything else is made with leather including the corner supports, all is Hand Stitched.I noticed the strap underneath the canvas shell has some Brass washers with a nail in the centre.Every time I move the trunk a piece falls off cause the leather is so dry.If you have any other clues please let me know.I'm sure that the brass hardware was added like you said mabey around 1900 cause it was already showing sign of falling apart.

I agree with Dave-- a neat old trunk but made after 1900.

The brass is a clue as well as the canvas. I wouldn't expect to see the body covered in canvas if it were 200 years old.
