I've had this machine for awhile and I'm looking for more information on its history and/or value.
Gathering information from a few sites, I think the machine dates to around 1880. There are a few patent dates on the machine, one in 1871, and two in 1879. The serial number is 183531.
The machine works, but needs a new drive belt (it's stretched out with age). Other than a minor blemish to the finish on the table surface, it is in excellent condition.
One site mentioned that the Crown models were made starting in 1879 and that they are not many known to still be around. I found a few advertisements online for machines that look like mine. The one I included here suggests that I have a Crown No. 7, as there is very little difference between my machine and the ad.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
It's beautiful. I don't know anything about them but there is a facebook group on treadles and they are very smart about these.
I have the exact same machine same model same scenario with the patent numbers but The only difference is I have a ton of stuff in the drawers from worlds fair Silver Hills March 1898 I looked it up and Silver Hills is a school for religious freedom and I’m trying to figure out if one of the teachers from the school on this my looks exactly the same except for the belt does work it’s in perfect condition you can literally sew curtains with it... If you still have your machine are you still interested in finding out information about it I can share the information that I have because I am trying to do the same. I really want to figure out where this is from
