Wooden Purse

I bought this purse at an Op-shop years ago. I don't know if it was hand-made or shop bought.
I bought it because I had never seen one before, and things that are different catch my eye. I paid 50c for it.
As you can see by the photos it has a strap with a catch for closing it. It had a stud on each side, and on the back and the front. The strap seems to made of vinyl. It is lined with red cotton material with a small pouch inside.
I would be curious to find out it's history, for example where it was made.
