The 17th pastor, Adam Clayton Powell, Sr. of the Abyssinian Baptist Church, now located in Village of Harlem, N.Y., tells of a compendium of a people's struggles against many odds, starting with twelve humble members to an organization of over 16,000 members.
It is a ‘must read’ in Black American studies of American Church History. It serves as a source of information as to adventures in the work of kingdom building.
It was in June, 1808, that the Abyssinian Baptist Church was organized. That year, the Rev. Thomas Paul, a liberal white preacher, came down from Boston and met a small group of people who were segregated members of the First Baptist Church (white) which was then worshiping in the Gold Street area of New York. Later locating to Broadway and 79th Street it was re-organized into what is now known as the Abyssinian Baptist Church now located in the Village of Harlem, New York.
Published in 1949, signed by Adam Clayton Powell, Sr., his wife, son and other members of the church.
