Want to give this to my daughter-in-law ----but would really like to know the pattern ----she is just beginning her milk glass collection....compote is 6 inches tall and 4 inches wide...any thoughts

You'll see plenty of posted items on this site cleverly mounted on ceilings and carpet-covered walls!
first image appears to be a ceiling lamp fixture made using a reproduction of an old McKee Bros. pattern called Quintec, c.1910. However McKee didn't make the pattern in milk glass; this was reproduced by Kemple in 1960s-70s.
