Looks like a logger's pike - if you go to Google images and type in "logger's pike", you'll see what I mean.

The blade seems too long its over 12" loggers pikes were much shorter. I keyed in Antique pikes and came up with Confederate Bridle Cutter Pike maybe not sure yet?

Hmmm...I looked up "Confederate Bridle Cutter Pike", and I must say this looks like it. If it is, it would be a pretty rare thing, and worth the time to let some experts handle it.

On closer examination, I notice the straight part is more blade-like than spike-like, which to my mind makes it more weapon than tool. I just finished looking through Neumann's "Swords and Blades of the American Revolution" and found nothing like it there. Another possibility that comes to my mind is naval boarding pike. Sorry I can't give you anything more definitive.

I agree with dhumphrey & Chris. I would research Georgia pikes.

Yep, $1,000 for a rare and unusual Confederate battle implement does not surprise me.

Well dhumphrey, I'll give you 3 goats & take my chances. LOL!

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck & quacks like a duck, it must be a duck. Right? "U dun gudd". OK, 4 goats! The governour of Georgia ordered blacksmiths to make these so they are all slightly diff.. OK, 4 goats!

Should it be cleaned or restored?

Don't dare touch it! leave it as is. You might try Rob Robles at "AntiqueGuns.com or there are many other auction sites. May I ask what State you found it in?
