this just came in today - i won it on an ebay auction. it's a very cute, old berry bucket. it looks like there are even berry stains inside of it. i'd love to know how old it is or anything else relevant. i have a beautiful Shaker berry bucket back at my folks house in New England which i'll take pics of next time i'm there. This one is 5 inches tall x 5 inches wide [plus the handle].
What a great look....
thank you packrat-place!
That looks awesome, love the small size.
Based on the wood and steel bands it looks quite early 1900's. It appears the handle was added at a much later date. I say that because it was obviously painted at least once long after the original finish had cracked up. Yet there is no paint on the handle brackets. The upholstery type tacks and the forged handles do not match the construction of the steel bands on the bucket.
That is just my opinion, maybe someone else may have some input.
I love this little guy! It would look so cute sitting next to that old house with the crooked door posted on here a few days ago...love this.
It is possible that the outside (but not bottom) was given a coat of Japan black to keep the steel bands from rusting & then the whole thing was painted yellow. The cracked paint is only in this area. I don't believe that this is a marriage of parts, in my humble opinion.
Love it!
thanks everyone! i don't think it's a marriage of parts. there is quite a bit of wear where the handle rubs against the loops. i love the berry marks inside the bucket!
