Hey, thanks. And cheers antiquerose I will look more into the Czech suggestion. If you don't mind my asking... How would be the way to identify a repro from a genuine? I suppose many different factors.

I think it must of had about 50 years of dust on it alone. I could count the layers!

I heard that wiring can possibly help to identify the age of an item. The wiring that was on it seems very old. I can find no markings anywhere.

I did not see your post earlier, or I would have commented as I did on this other post: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/147691-hanging-lamp

If you go to Andalusia, you will find shops selling antique and new lamps of similar form. They originate from Moorish culture, pre-dating the Moravian Christmas star by centuries. Traditionally the star's frame is metal, holding the separate glass panels in place. Yours is a modern take on the old form.

Cheers Noob, I am just looking at your links now.
    12. AwesomeOldThings AwesomeOldThings, 10 years ago
Thanks for those links very interesting. When you say modern version, I guess it could still be quite old, it certainly seems to be. By the sounds of it you definitely know your stuff could you put a date on it?
    13. noob, 10 years ago
By 'modern' I mean the industry for blowing glass into a complex mold to produce household goods had to have existed. That could still be early in the 20th century.

Spain is interesting in that until the country opened up after Franco's death (1975), design was stuck in conservative, old-fashioned forms. Of course in the very short time of the last few decades since then, design in Spain has raced to the very forefront. When I first visited in 1992, it seemed like antique shops and El Rastro were absolutely bursting with stuff that the Spanish just wanted out, to make way for new stuff that kept them up to date with their EU-neighbours.

I think the best clue about your lamp is where you found it. It's in a traditional Spanish form, but not a slavish copy like what's made in Andalusian workshops. I would guess made in Spain earlier in the 20th century.

Very impressed noob (my Catalan girlfriend also)

Thank you so much for your insight. Did you study history of art by any chance?
