Just another piece of Heirloom items passed down in OUR family. This is some of the stuff that was packed away in the Victorian Papier Mache Box I just posted a few days ago. Was packed when I moved, and only now I am digging through some of my family stuff here while having the Flu
Must have had something on the front of the Locket as there are those 2 holes there where I assume some pic was attached -- but it is now long gone.
Thought a good time to get some pics to post from stuff of my family I had buried away....
Hope you enjoy!!
very beautiful!!! stunning!!!!!
Extremely unique and beautiful!!
Hi Antiquerose. Your locket is likely to be vulcanite. It's pressed inside which usually means valucantie. Jet is usually plain.
As a double check vulcanite usually smells a little like rubber and tends to go a khaki or slightly brown colour when exposed to the sun. Vulcanite is also cast, rather than carved like jet.
Also, a jet chain will have a break on each end where they are glued. Vulcanite will only have one because it's thermostatic so you heat it up to make the links flexible.
It probably had a little spray of flowers attached to the front, that's why there are holes there. If you google vulcanite locket, you'll probably find a few examples.
So pretty... I have a similar one:
