This is a STANLEY COMPASS , marked -
STANLEY LONDON
No 007 -
It stands 2.5" h x roughly the same across the top ,
it has an opening lid with a sight for accurate pinpointing & a lever to stop the pointer from spinning when not in use..
bought from a recycle centre for £2. In perfect working order & condition ..
possibly from a boat of some sort ...
i love the pattern on its face ;-)

Where has it been? What seas has it sailed? Who used it? The questions and delight just go on and on.
Actually racer4four ive tried to find info on this one but haven't found this model on the web !!
The stanley London compass website list loads of reproduction ones but this one isnt on it so is possibly a good one !
It also states that similar ones with the mirror could be an architects compass or milners compass but they have a small hole in the lid which mine hasn't. .
Its a mystery to me at the moment but ill keep looking & list my findingz :-)

ahhhh!!! This is sooo cool!!! I love compasses and I've never seen one like this either.
At one time I had an old brass one, not on a stand, but it did have some added features on it...from France. I gave it to my son.
Isn't old brass stuff like this awesome?!

yes brass lasts for ever !! I thought it was intresting because of the stand but with the sight and mirror & two sets of numbers on the dial i think its awesome too :-)
