Our younger son has a great collection; 146 dishes for olive pits or pit holder (caroceros) and stick holders (palilleros), last picture. He began when my mother gave him a frog with the open mouth that was of her mother in law (first picture), most of them are of a sort of majolica but some are of fine pocelain like the ones in the first picture. The collection has 33 fishes with the open mouth, 24 shoes, several animals and human figures. Some are combining and has place for the sticks and the pits like the black head in blue ceramic, second picture. Most people do not know about the existence of caroceros. These small holders are typical of the picadas, a sort of great display of ham and salamis, different cheeses and all type of olives with their pits, the taste of olives without then is so different. This sort of first dish is common in the summer time with beer http://www.cuatroquesos.com.ar/tablas.php or better here https://ayudabuenosaires.wordpress.com/2014/02/28/picadas-argentinas-para-compartir-a-toda-hora/ . He is very proud of this collection.
Nice collection, I love these!
Your son has a great collection Kivatinitz - I really love the devilish ones.
Are these made locally?
Love them! I especially like the frog and the yellow bird in the first pic
Just delightful.....particularly the hippo and the elephant!
Thanks to all. Ricardo is a very special guy (with different abilities) and he say always it is no on sale. Jaja. Yes all were don here in Argentina and it seems it is a local tradition of Uruguay and Argentina this sort of holder. Here it is not so usual to consume stuffed olives as in Spain or Itally and there is a great variety of them I like a special type called sobadas, are black and soft because they were kneaded, not fermented. Yes, after fishes and shoes hippos and birds are the second more common. I like the negro head when has all the sitcks on it.
