This was a gift, and I was told simply that it is an antique solid oak rocker. It is very heavy and sturdy and it is carved. I've never seen one quite like it. If anyone any has ever seen one before or can give any information on it I would appreciate it. Or if anyone has an opinion or guess I'd appreciate that as well. Thanks in advance.

I have one exactly like it. I bought it at an Amish Furniture in Ohio 6 years ago, brand new. I can;t remember the name of the pattern... It's at my son's house. I'll ask him if there are any marking on the bottom.
      Beautiful chair regardless :)

Thank you! This one actually has a number stamped under the seat. But it's so faded I can only read the first few letters. One thing though, I've had this one a whole lot longer than six years. Perhaps it's a continuing pattern. Thanks so much for the info and the compliment.

I have one something similar to it. It was from the 1970's and bought through SEARS. I know it was the 1970's as my Dad was still alive when he bought it for my Mom (one of the last gifts her gave her before he got Sick/Died).

Also I had an old advertising page from a SEARS catalog that had pics of these rocking chairs in it.

I will quickly post mine here for you to see

I have a pic here (quickly) of my Rocking Chair that I will post so you can see it.

I bought the EXACT rocker yesterday at a thrift store in Wayne County, Ohio. It has the SAME carvings across the top of the headrest. The seat is 3" thick. You don't find such thick seats on newer models anymore. There are NO discernable markings on the bottom that I can find either. Yes, I am in the middle of Amish Country here in Ohio so I am sure that one Amish furniture maker made these and sold them locally or at a local Amish furniture store that used to be along US Route 30 in Dalton, Ohio that charged an arm and a leg for their oak furniture.. There are a lot of mom and pop Amish furniture makers in this area. I gauge from the design and heavyness that this was from probably the late 40's or early 50's at best. And it is heavy to pick up and very sturdy. Mine is extremely comfortable and I enjoy sitting in it and rocking away. You don't find quality oak furniture like this anymore. The local Amish prefer oak wood for their furniture. I used to know a local Amish furniture maker but he made dressers, etc. They pass the designs down to their sons and use the local oak wood. Their finished pieces are exquisite and last for many many years. They build stuff to last out of oak. I have seen entertainment centers that are huge and gorgeous out of oak.

I will treasure my rocker for many years and I hope you treasure yours as well. Quality stuff like this is not mass produced in a factory but one by one in a small Amish workshop where no electricity is present....they just use gas powered tools so the headrest carvings were hand done from an old family pattern.

I just joined this group and have the same rocker as Skyhorse. I
I had not seen others like mine until I came across this one. Have you found out any information on yours since this 3 yr. old posted question of yours?
Mine was from the late 1970's, but I can't remember anything else.
If you've acquired any other info. I would appreciate it. Thank you.

I have a Rocking Chair that looks almost exactly like your's but the Head rest was hand painted. It's been in my family for many years it's value is about 3500.00

This is a rocker I purchased from an estate in Tennessee 20 years ago. Other than here I’m unable to find anything on it. It is hand painted and I’m wondering if is identical to the one rcurbgirl said she owns.

I have the exact same style chair. My husband and I picked it up at a flea market in Belton, Texas; over 27 years ago! Its still holding up after rocking two babies and then in elementary classrooms for past five years. Great find and a keeper!

I have the same chair as Twinkiedooter it sounds like! I do demolition for a living and the chair managed to survive a 30,000 # track hoe destroying it's whole house around it! I was amazed. Had I saw it before I started the demo, I would have surely grabbed it. I have found some really cool, unusual, awkward things in my line of work, but this chair is something I have carried with me all over the country as I travel for work. It came out of an enormous plantation style home in Richmond, IN which also is in the heart of Amish country, and is currently in South West OH in my hometown.

Oh my! I was looking up my rocker and found this site. I found my rocker 4 days ago at a thrift store. It was marked $89.99 with a tag on top of it $39.99. My 20% discount, I got it for $31.00! Rhe arm is loose and that's it! I'm loving it so much.

Ok so I really don't understand some are saying from the 1970s and some 40s and 50s ? Mine is handpainted on headrest, gold accents , oak and extremely solid and heavy id say about 50lbs .. I was this about selling it now that I'm older and my kids do want any of my "antique stuff" they say.. But I don't want to let it go without knowing any information on it.. of it more valuable I'm sure a dear friend or someone would live it as much as I do.. So any info would be greatly appreciated.. thank u

I have this exact rocking chair! I received it in Sacramento California from a guy who was of Hispanic decent. He said he got it from Mexico. I am not sure if I want to keep or sell. Rocked my baby in it and he is 15 now.

Regardless of anything, it isn't antique yet, it isn't carved and the crest board is pressed with the design. Very sturdy chairs but mass produced.

I bought one at a furniture store as a floor model back in 1977 in Norfolk, Va. while I was in college. I still had it until recently when I gave it to my daughter on the birth of my first grand child. I had it refurbished, that is refinished and re-glued for her before giving it to her. It is the one I rocked her in when she was a child. It is destined to become a family heirloom. They definitely don't make rockers like these anymore.

My mother bought this same style chair when she was pregnant with me back in 1973 or 1974. Although, my headrest is etched with an eagle and Latin writing. This is the only time I have found a rocking chair that was like mine.
