I am told from what i have seen this is a pepper box? it has 6 rounds all original. ANy idea's on any info on this i know it shows pattened 1832 but don't know how to find the real year of this and anyone know what this should go for ruffly? Any other info would be appreiciated. I know what is stamped on it but the ettching is very good with little wear. Thanks for any info!
any idea what the value of somthing like this would be? Just a ball park est. would work! Or if you know anyone to contact about the value or place to look would be appreicated! Thanks
I sold aPeppperbox in 1981 ,it was in working order looks to be about the same as yours,I still had a kit box with mine (cleaners, caps two extra rods,)I sold it for 5000.00,so if your going to sell it do your foot work first ,the market might be up or down since then but its still a good marketable piece so be careful ,dont give it away.good luck.
in mint condition would bring 800.00 to 900.00 was made 1880s should have some marking on it one should look like a crown
Anyone have any idea where to go with this for a family member that would like to see someone enjoy this? Thanks
What markings are on the barrel ?
I beleive it says "Allen Thurper" "Worcester" "Patented 1837 "cast steel" This is what I belive i can seee for marking on the long pepper barrel.
Thanks for any help you can give!
It is Allen and Thurber pepperbox. The firm was owned by Ethan Allen. The Allen pepperbox was the first Amercian Double Action revolving arms and very popular.
While yours has the 1837 patent date it is an 1845 model (ALL Worcester made are M1845) and was made up until about 1865.
I cannot see the tension spring screw--it should be in the center of the inner grip (may be a small hole with screw missing). Earlier 1837s will have the screw near the bottom of the grip.
Condition looks very good and assuming it functions and the tension spring screw is there. I would say this is $300- $450 gun wholesale. I would expect to see a dealer ask in the $500-$700 range. I don't follow firearm prices as closely as I used to, so my estimates may be a little off.
