    M-1917 / M1917A1 Steel Helmet

The first American steel helmet was adopted during World War I as the M1917 "Doughboy" helmet. The M1917A1, adopted in 1939, had only minor changes and was visually almost identical. In 1941, the M1917A1 helmet was replaced by the M-1 "steel pot" helmet in all the armed services, although it did not become universal for at least another year.

The M1917A1 was used in many battles in the early part of WWII, this was the helmet US soldiers would have been wearing during the Attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 Dec 1941

also used by the Philippine Scouts & US soldiers during The Battle of Bataan in 1942

Thanks SEAN, this is one of my favorite WWII helmets, I always liked the classic look of the Doughboy style helmets!

Another nice lid BG I really like the patina and well worn appearance on this one and I would happily display it in my collection .
I have yet to add an M-17 to my collection I have had ample opportunity to purchase one but I am waiting for that lid that just screams out at me .

      Regards Mark

Thanks kozowy1967, the helmet also has a very rough texture, Im not sure if it's a wood chip finish or possible crushed shells?

Ive had these with a rough sand finish, a corked finish, and a saw dust finish, I heard they also used crushed walnut shells or possible clam shells to make a rough camo finish
