I picked this up a few days ago at Volunteer's of America. As the label states it's Chinese Shiwan pottery. The generic term for these figures are "mudmen". I actually like the realism they achieve by mixing the matte bisque ceramic with the high gloss glazes. These are made in an infinite variety of fisherman, beggers, street venders and just about everything in between. I believe these are mid century pieces or slightly newer but they still have a lot of charm and whimsical appeal if not value. -Mike-

I see mudmen here from time to time and they seem valued low. I guess that's because there is lots of them, but I think they are so well modeled and glazed.
