This is, without question, my favorite example of a Murano fish. I love the lines and depiction of the thrashing fish as they jump out of the water. It was designed by Flavio Poli for Seguso Vetri d' Arte circa 1937. It's a fairly large and heavy piece standing 15" tall and weighs 14 lbs. It is documented as "Fish in Sommerso a Bollicine" in Carl T. Gable's book, "Murano Magic: Complete Guide to Venetian Glass, Its History and Artists", page 65, fig. 4.23.

@ Rosie.... Thanks, I appreciate that. You're probably like me and don't go down memory lane, but I need to, I haven't been a member for that long and have missed a lot.

      Hi Rick
I'm interested to see that your fish is similar to mine. I'd love your informed opinion on them if you have a moment. See my show and tell (not sure how to use this system).

A piece just like this has sat on my mom's piano for almost 50 years. She got it in 1962. I grew up looking at it as I practiced. I just saw a similar piece today for sale in a consignment shop. I was excited to see it as I have never seen another like it. I just did some research and found this site. I am curious to learn more about this artwork and to determine the artist of her piece as well as the one in the shop. (Which I may go back and get!) Can you guide me on where I can find further information? Thank you!

Hey Jball... I just so happened to find your message in my email - for which I'm always waay behind Lol. Unfortunately, there is very little information about these sculptures. The only référence I've come across, was a photo with caption in Leslie Pina's, "Murano Magic". Now, is it a double fish sculpture or a single? If it's double, the fish on the right should have a single fin tail which is a Seguso/Poli piece. If it's a single fish with the one fin tail, it's a Poli piece, and if it's a single with a two fin tail, the maker could be one of three; Barbini, Seguso or Salviati. If you'd like the page from Murano Magic, let me know, and I'll make you a copy. Also, please send me a pic of your fish - my email is in my profile. Rick

Thank you both keramikos and Rick55 for your response - I did go back and buy the piece at the consignment shop as it was very nostalgic for me! Rick55 I will email you pics of both the one I purchased and the one my mom has. Both my mom's and the one I got are double fish.
