Inspired by Adolphe-William Bouguereau's famous 1895 painting.
At a dramatic 65cm tall, this three-dimensional sculpture depicts the romantic tale of Cupid's 'Abduction of Psyche'.
Its fine detail, from softly draping fabric to muscular human forms, is cast in designer resin and finished in paint to look like bronze to showcase a timeless sculpture celebrating the triumph of love.
I suspect this is a copy but I haven't yet found another one like it. Sculpture yes but not with the lamp fittings! I paid $50 at a second-hand shop.
Maker's mark says 'rosa' @1995. The '@' might not be @ but a circle about that size.
I forgot to say, it has a tiny label - Made in China, underneath on the baize covered base.
Thank you PhilDavidAlexanderMorris for that information. I suspected it was either very rare or just cheap, because I couldn't find another one like it.
If you are able to point me in the direction of another one so I can compare them I would be grateful. I haven't been able to find the maker anywhere either?
very beautiful!!!
I have a very similar lamp. I have no idea what/where/how old. I don't know how to add the picture to your comments, but if you can find me on this site, you will see the picture. Very beautiful and interesting!
