    WW2 era souvenir hat ashtrays.

This is an unusual pair with small military insignia attached. One is a US Navy saucer cap and the other is a USMC cap.

Often described as ``trench art`` and made of brass artillery shells. Strictly speaking, trench art items were not literally made in trenches with bullets flying around, but in workshops close to the front or after the campaign and sold as souvenirs. The ashtrays were probably made in France or elsewhere in liberated Europe if shells were used as material, although some of UK brass souvenirs, both WWI and WW II, were made during the war.

      Key words: ``trench art ashtrays``

I am very familiar with trench art.

These show no indication of being made from shell brass-- I classify them as souvenir pieces not trench art.
