I have a beautiful old hutch that I would love to learn more about. It is 6' tall 5' wide, very heavy, 2 pieces, original hardware has been removed except for the origianl lock box mechanism. There is keyholes but the teardrop pull knob isnt aligned with the hole, making me think not original. I can see where a square shape was removed from door as well. If I was to guess a turn knob lock. I don't know the name of the dot/circle edging is called either if you can help me with that. I'd also love to know what the large medallion like carving is. Is it a magnify glass? An Egyptian scepter? I love that the hutch has straight legs, its mostly farm simple in my opinion. Thanks for any help.
Is there a chance you could post a picture of the whole piece at once? These are good for detail, but it's hard to make sense of how it all fits together.
Ok.. give me a couple of minutes to get up pic (: thank you!
Ok upstatenycollector new photos up. (:
I'm not an appraiser, by any means. That being said, Boy you got me! One thing I noticed is the piece looks like a marriage, the top and bottom designs are very dis-similar. There is a lot of beaded trim on the top, and none on the bottom, and the bead board back doesn't look like it goes with the bottom either. The wood grain on the top corners looks like red oak, where the bottom looks more like mahogany. The bottom looks sort of late Egyptian revival. A very interesting piece. Here are a couple of links I found while researching this:

Good luck, and remember, if you like it, that's all that matters!!
