Antique English, 5-piece Sterling Tea Service ~
Family-owned for four generations, originally purchased circa 1919 by Judge T.C. Munger as a gift for his wife Carrie Case Munger during WWI when they traveled abroad to England and throughout Europe. The silver tray does not match the serving pieces but was purchased at the same time in Europe. Set was given to their daughter, Ruth Munger James and she bequeathed it to her granddaughter, Cari James. As a small child I remember my G'ma Ruth and my mother Elizabeth hosting holiday tea parties.

      Hi

Are you planning to sell the set?

I have a sterling serving spoon that is very old with the same marks on the back as you have pictured - with the anchor, etc. Do you know who / where it might have been made ? I would like to know more about it. Thank you.

      It is Gorham - 1848 / 1865. Posted before I looked far enough - -

I have almost a whole set with the same symbols except the one second to last. I've been trying to figure out how much it is worth! It has the lion, anchor and 'G' but not the other symbol. Does anyone know about this?

I have a glass piece with a silver flip up top, under that flip up top is a glass stopper. On the silver flip up top are the markings that are shown above on this page. it has the lion, the anchor and the rest. Can any one tell me what these markings are for and who and why did they have them on these items. I can send a photo of my antique piece if you have any information for me.
      Thank you.

I found a pretty good reference site if you've got the gumption to go through it...Guide to World Hallmarks...Encyclopedia of Silver Marks, Hallmarks and Makers Marks. Hope this helps someone.

      BIRMINGHAM for sure.

The date letter is a Tudor style 'C' .... therefore 1826.
