We picked up this 20s buffet on craigslist (like most of my projects). It had been touched up and the finish was dark and heavy. I stripped most of it using only acetone and a toothbrush, but some of the newer finish wouldn't dissolve and I had to use stripper.

The back is stamped " Basic Furn. Co." & "NO.673 (or 073) N.B.HALL" with the date "12-2-28 _63"written in chalk.

I have many more pictures here: http://s292.photobucket.com/user/gforce1108/library/20s%20buffet

I just haven't loaded the good ones from my camera - just my phone

The pictures I've uploaded here are the "before", side by side comparison of a stripped drawer, drawer pull and "after" (horrible picture).

*** update! Found a set of exact same drawer pulls today on eBay. Couldn't believe it :) I'll use the extra ones on the next project ***

The chalk writing is either done by the warehouse or the company moving it, not by the maker. If you intend stripping carvings and moldings buy a cheap battery operated tooth brush with several different stiffness bristles. They work like a charm on those hard to get to places.

The battery operated toothbrush is a good idea :) somehow this one toothbrush has lasted through several projects. I spent hours on the dining room table with it.

You would be amazed what a battery tooth brush will do. Faucets, mag wheels, glass top stoves etc.

You found this on Craigslist ? Wow - Great find!! Totally Congrats !!!!

So much of the Stuff I see on Craigslist is real crappy stuff ( as I have found out ). Saw some vintage Blonde Wood furniture that should have thrown in a Pile and destroyed!!

You should see the Pictures I saw on there!! I had to keep them..........and they are Selling That......LOL............OMG

auntiquerose: we've found a good amount of really nice antiques that need to be refinished, and some that were actually in good shape on CL, but you are correct... there's a whole lot of crap out there! Most of what I have posted here came from CL (everything but the clock and dresser - they were yard sales). My dining table was actually purchased from a guy that does cleanouts - he was paid to take it to the dump but figured it was a little too nice. Took me a ton of hours, but it was worth it!
