this is believed to be a western Africa reward drum. it was bought at an estate sale from ex service man who was in the army core of engineers. this is truly an unsolved mystery. speaking with a lady from Ghana she told us that this drum was made by someone high up in the tribe to reward possibly a life saving event. the chief would have carved the wood to make the drum and even killed the animal for the surface hide. there is hairs on the bottom of the surface. the paint is original and the drawing is supposed to be the animal killed. if anyone has seen anything like this any help would be greatly appreciated.
