Lieutenat
(1 item)
Picked up at an estate auction in Virginia. It looks very old is made of pine and has a little box inside to the left. The handles on the end are thin ornate round. It has a Romanian name bleeding though. It is very cool but I would like to date it or learn more about it.
It certainly is a Romanian name. If the trunk immigrated through Ellis Island as a port, you might have a chance at searching the Archives for the name.Keep in mind many times new names were given to immigrants that Americans could not understand .This could take time but is attainable.
In additionI would search under Romanian Trunk images to get baseline of comparable trunks/Headboards seemed to contain similar Folk Art., Also search Romanian Folk Art images. you will see some more similar items. One of the trunks is dated 1857 Which may be an indicator, however this in no way means yours is ,but it could be a starting point. Always search for comparable images.
Good luck on your quest nice piece.
