    My grandparents owned and ran an iron-mongers. This item came from that shop and we have no idea what it is! Can anyone help?

    The 'cage' opens and closes by sliding the centre piece up the arm. I would guess that its dated 1900's, and is made from brass.

      I believe it is a set-up basket for a circular hand-crank knitting machine.
