This is an itinerary for a trip to NYC that the Erie Railroad sponsored for employees from the Passenger Department. The trip occurred over a 4 day weekend in May, 1929. The employees travelled on the Erie Limited from Chicago to Jersey City, NJ and then went across the Hudson River to NYC. The employees stayed at a luxurious hotel in NYC and were treated to banquets, meetings and sightseeing. A highlight of the visit was a boat ride (using one of the Erie's commuter ferries) along the Hudson and East Rivers. The sights they saw included the then under construction Hudson River Bridge, which later became the George Washington Bridge. (The GWB opened in 1931) Try to picture the NY skyline without the Empire State Building---it didn't exist yet! Ironically, the hotel where the group stayed, the McAlpin, still stands today, as luxury condominiums. The Erie Railroad, the ferries, and the Jersey City Terminal are all gone.
