This desk was my grandfathers and he passed away 20 years ago. My Aunt had it in her garage and asked me if I wanted it. YES of coarse I did! I have cleaned it up very nicely and I love it! Unfortunately I know nothing about it. I know it was at grandpas house as long as I can remember up to the time he passed, and I am 55 years old. There are no markings on the desk as far a a manufacture. I covered it with a fine tooth comb and the only markings anywhere on it is some measurements in pencil. I do know that My great grandfather made a lot of tables in my grandpas garage and he loved woodwork. Grandpa had every type of machine made for wood work so I guess its possible he made it, I have no way to know. I do know I am happy to have it and it will remain in our family for a long time. If anyone can tell me anything about it by looking at the picture I would like to hear it.
Thank you.
Truly beautiful. The front faces are a thin veneer as solid wood cannot match wood grains that closely. Maybe others on CyberAsylum (Oops, CW) know when fine thin veneer was developed. I've made a lot of furniture but never used veneer as we can't get it where I live. Taking a guess anyway & think between 1920-40. Note: plywood/veneer goes back to ancient Egypt, but this quality is more current.
Thank you Blunderbuss,
Yes definitely has the thin veneer on the front of the drawers. Thank you for the comment and for looking!
Thank you Phil,
I appreciate your help! I can tell you that the height is 30 inches and it is 49 inches long 19 inches deep. Defiantly no stamp or label on it. Thanks again!
