Craig, I think I may have shown you this piece awhile back. The possibility of it being Welz was suggested but it was never certain but recently after seeing examples of this zigzag décor on other Welz pieces I am wondering if we have a definitive ID. Given the incredible amount of time and energy you have put into Welz research, I am wondering what you think. 6”tall, UV reactive. Please feel free to use these pics.

As much as I would love to give you a definitive answer Mac, this one still stumps me as far as applying a firm attribution as to who I think made it....

Thanks Craig...I sometimes (most times) get so caught up in getting an ID that I forget just to appreciate the glass.

Nothing wrong with trying to ID glass.... I have found it is quite possible to both appreciate the beauty and research the maker at the same time......

Never forget the reason you own it, is that the moment you saw it you appreciated the beauty..... enough to get your money out..... Most of us do not own things we think are ugly.....

Figuring out who made it when possible, is simply another aspect of appreciating the art form and it's origins.... Some you can figure out, some you can't.... does not make them more, or less, beautiful..... Just enhances my appreciation of it...

To me it is not just about the glass... it is about the history, and the people, and everything that went into making it. It is about looking at the art form..... the uniqueness that comes from different firms and designers. It is about unique shapes and colors, and techniques... and examining similarities as much as differences..... To me it is about the search for an understanding of who, when, where, why, how.... and many more things..... To many people I think adding a piece to their collection is the end of a little journey......

To me it is the beginning.... maybe that is why research is such an important part of my collecting..... did not used to be..... but it is now...

I agree Craig - and we are lucky to have people like you who are so passionate about research. I can certainly relate to that passion - I love photographing glass.

      Thanks for checking in folks!

Although the shape appears similar, neither of those décors have ever been confirmed to be by any house, so any talk of an attribution would certainly be quite premature.

Confirmed with strong supportable empirical evidence, or documentation if found.
Does not really matter who does it. What is most important is how.
