This was hanging in the dining room of the house we moved into in 1948. House was built in the 1930's? No identifying marks on the glass (that I can find). Don't have the info on the light fixture/brass. Been a long time. It is presently hanging in my garage. Wife won't let me hang it in the house.
We (brothers and sisters) always referred to it as "the upside down birthday cake". Can't find any info on my internet searches.

generally this fixture may be called a 'gravity hook fixture'... In a quick look I didn't see an exact match but you might look around 'Old House Lights' for a match. Most of these lamp were sold thru catalogs like Sears with actual mfg unknown; so take a look thru some of the catalogs:

Thanks for the lead. I will probably spend some free time searching these catalogs.

I so agree with Phil!!! I was trying to think of a way to put that gracefully. Good job there Phil!

I love it and when I saw it, I too thought it looked like a birthday cake ;)

I love it as well, and the first thing I said was, "That looks like a birthday cake!" Ask your wife to reconsider...that's too beautiful for the garage.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and my wife doesn't think it is "beautiful". As long as I can see it everyday I am okay with the present situation.

This fixture is older than 1930, I believe. Style-wise, it is Edwardian from around 1908, or there abouts. I have several of these. There are many different colors and at least two different sizes.

Short of going to an antique show and paying to appraise, how do I verify age, etc.?
I would need to remove from ceiling to take to show. All comments so far are leading to an older timeframe than I had originally thought.

look thru the gravity hood shades at the link above; not an 'exact' match there but some very similar. Shades are priced with or without fixtures, and fitters sizes are given. Should be able to develop a rough retail value range.

      What link above? Tall Cakes

the Old House Lights link in 1st comment; to help here is the direct link to the gravity hook shades:
      http://www.oldhouselights.com/gravity_hook_pendent_shades_01.htm
use the "More" link on each page to go thru the 13 web pages of shades...

Thanks. Searched the link and found some "close" to mine but not exact. I might have to get the ladder out and do a closer exam of my fixture. Recent surgery prevents me from doing this for a few more months. Don't remember seeing any marks on the glass itself. The hooks/bulb sockets had markings. Also, need to get some measurements (diameter, etc.).
