This was recently purchased in a thrift store for ten bucks. I have very limited knowledge in jewelry but when I saw the jeweled clasp I knew this wasn't junk. So when I got home I found this was similar to the bohemian garnet necklaces I saw online. The clasp works but the safety chain seems to be missing. There is also a missing stone on the chain. So it's not in perfect condition but I just love it and will keep it on display in my home. Maybe there is someone on this site that can confirm or disprove?
Lucky you! I have been looking for something like this for a long time!
You obviously have great instincts... I love this piece. It looks very correct to me. I absolutely love it.
Thanks freiheit! I only seem to find things when I am not looking . lol!

Hi SEAN68! Thanks for the welcome! This site is really amazing!
That must be the secret: I have to stop looking:)
A very nice Bohemian garnet necklace set in vermeil perhaps. Probably made in Germany at the end of the 19s century. Is there any mark?
Thanks for commenting Agram.m. I have not located any markings. I really like the design and haven't come across any identicals .. that's why I love this piece.
This is a beautiful piece of Bohemian garnet jewelry. The material used is tombac (a brass-copper-zinc alloy). I would date it right to the end of the 19th century or even the beginning of the 20th century. The garnets still have a nice rose cut and the backs of the stones are closed.
Later jewelry often shows garnets with a "Spiegelschliff" (a flat cut upper stone surface), an open backing and the metal the jewelry is made of changes to silver or gold.
Most garnets used today in modern jewelry show brownish-red colors. The old garnets in contrast show wonderful blood red shades.
Enjoy you wonderful collier!
Thanks lisali1919 for the detailed information! Now I know what to say to people when showing it off ! :)
