This is a 1800-century brooch from Sweden. It is made of goldplated filigreesilver in the shape of a heart. A large red, probably glass, stone is set in the centre. This type of jewelry was often used as bridaljewelry by the commons. I found some very similar ones in a museum, they were given to the museum in the 1830´s -1880´s. It´s not really right to post this as victorian as this isn´t english but that´s the only way to post this and show it´s age. I am certain it´s from the 1800's century, but this brooch could even be previctorian but that I don´t know for sure. These type of jewelry and jewelry used for traditional clothing was excluded from the rules of being marked, unfortunately.

It does have a Georgian/Victorian look to it, the stone could be Garnet, the Georgians/Victorians did like their Garnets,

Beautiful :)... I think garnet is a good call, although I'm not sure how you could tell short of taking it to the jewelers.

      Thanks Sean!
Thank you Mikelv85! I'm pretty sure it's glass, it was frequently used in this type of jewelry according to my books. And that's fine to me. I'm interested in what 'common' people used in order to make beautiful things to wear. It doesn't have to be gems in order to be beautiful, not to me :).

Thanks sweet CindB! This is one of my favourites. I have been able to trace a few more of these in our museum but have never seen another one in real life but this one. I think a few of these were melted down when they were out of fashion. The ones in the museum had been donated by a man who had bought them from lookal jewelers in order to save them from being melted down.
