At least I believe this is a Rayo, based on the name on the cover and the heart shape ornate base cutouts. Nickel color, flawless not a ding. Anyone have and idea on age? and if it is truly a Rayo?
Thank you,
John
I just picked one up at an auction yesterday, just like it. I also believe it's Rayo, but I'm not expert. Mine has been electrified, a long time ago based on the plug. Yours seems to be missing the 3 prongs that fold down and would hold the glass lamp shade. The research i have found is that they are nickle platted copper and date to around the turn of the 20th century. It looks like complete/working rayo like this sell around $100 or so.
Thinking it's nickle platted brass, not copper.
Maybe someone else can clarify.
This is indeed a Rayo lamp. It was made in 1905 and is nickle plated brass. The one pictured goes for around 25-30 in the condition it is in. It is missing the ring that has the three arms that holds the shade, a glass chimney that would go on the top, and the cap in the middle that would disperse the air that comes from the center of the lamp.
Hope this helps.
I have wick and chinney base and the arm attachment for a rayco. I have had one that elec but all i could keep was the the shade and chimney. To make one good one that has all the part in working order.
My Nanny was a Creek on the last reservation closed in AL. She gave me a Rayo & I used it in jamaica for yrs. Wish I had it now for the memories.
