my mother got this chair from her grandmother 40 years ago. We have been told it may be a confessional chair but really have no idea. It is solid oak. Any help in origin would be appreciated. It's been a favorite piece in our family.

I actually bought the exact same chair at a NW Missouri farm auction last week. Had it appraised at valuemystuff.com. The appraisal is shared on their website. Most likely this is a commissioned pair of chairs. You have one, and I own the other. Oak. Turn of the century. Be more than happy to send you the appraisal.
